Since arriving on the main roster in March 2015, Neville has hardly done anything of note and has largely been relegated to WWE Superstars purgatory. Due to that, fans tend to forget just how great of a run he had as NXT champion for almost the entirety of 2014. He defended his title on a near-weekly basis and took on all-comers, including Rob Van Dam on the June 26, 2014 episode.

RVD had ventured to Full Sail University once before a year earlier and defeated Aiden English but, needless to say, he faced bigger competition in his return to NXT in the form of Neville. Perhaps they would have contested a quicker matchup a decade earlier, but for what it was, the match was a blast and a cool clash of similar styles.

The one-of-a-kind competitor proved he still had it in him to produce an above-average match. More importantly, Neville showed he was a star on the rise with an awesome outing against RVD and the biggest win of his career up to that point. This was likely the last truly great match RVD had before leaving WWE a few months later.
