10 Former Cruiserweight Champions: Where Are They Now?

8. Disco Inferno

One of Vince Russo’s closest allies, Disco Inferno wasn’t quite as horrendous as his reputation (or name) suggests. Much like Goldust, he took a potentially career-ending gimmick that looked terrible on-paper and made it last a good 5 years longer than it should’ve. That’s not to say it was “good,” but Glen Gilbertti (the performer) turned “Disco Inferno” into an entertaining midcard act during some of WCW’s darkest days.

What he wasn’t, however, was a great Cruiserweight Champion. Disco Inferno held the belt for a 48-day period in 1999 before eventually passing the it onto Evan Karagias, and that was about the extent of his activity in the division. His contract wasn’t picked-up by WWE during the company’s acquisition of WCW in 2001, and he worked primarily for TNA in the wake of WCW’s demise.

Gilbertti has also worked as a writer during his time in the business. It’s probably best he doesn’t do this any more, though, as he once proposed a “martian invasion” angle during a WCW booking meeting. Disco served a brief spell on TNA creative in 2007, but now works at Sapphire Las Vegas: a strip club. Presumably not as a performer, though… that’d be horrifying.

Moving swiftly onwards...
