10 Former Stars WWE Should Re-Hire
The women's revolution sure could use a little 'Stratusfaction'.
Every wrestling fan loves a good WWE return.
Even if the returnee is as bland a saltless diet, nothing is guaranteed to put butts in seats like the prospect of seeing a familiar, beloved face. WWE is clearly aware of this fact, making use of its stars of yesteryear whenever possible to create a short-lived spike in TV ratings.
The problem is that those legends are generally limited to minor/solitary appearances. Even worse, their involvement often comes at the expense of the company's future stars, who are tasked with guiding WWE into a new era.
It's already hard enough for newer performers to get over without being used as fodder in a lazy nostalgia trip.
Unless the surprise return of a past star has a long-term purpose, it's essentially a band-aid solution to WWE's problems. Rather than bringing back old names for cameo appearances, WWE could steady the ship by re-hiring several wrestlers that will contribute to the overall product in the long run.
Further than providing a small ratings boost, these 10 potential WWE re-signees could all be used for specific purposes where it counts the most: in the ring.
These are 10 former WWE stars who should be brought back (for more than a detrimental cameo).
10. Shelton Benjamin
If there's one thing you're guaranteed to get with Shelton Benjamin (despite his advancing age), it's high-quality wrestling matches.
Since being released from WWE in 2010, the 40-year-old Benjamin has earned a reputation for being an extremely entertaining in-ring worker for Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling and on the independent circuit.
Providing a mixture of technical wrestling ability and high-flying acrobatics, just the thought of The Gold Standard getting to work with some of the overshadowed talent currently in WWE is a mouthwatering prospect.
Matches between Benjamin and the likes of Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler and Neville would have the potential to be instant classics.
WWE has made a good start to making wrestling the focus of its product once again, and bringing back Benjamin while he is still performing at an impressive level would be a fine way to continue that trend.
