10 Former WWE Failures Who Would Succeed In 2015

5. Gunner Scott

Don't remember Gunner Scott? Don't worry, you're not the only one. Scott, who had also wrestled for Ring of Honor under real name Brent Albright, was only around for a cup of coffee on the Smackdown brand between April and June of 2006. A technically solid, hard-working wrestler, Scott was dropped from the blue brand for the most bizarre reason. Brought in as the protégé of Chris Benoit, Scott was told to work and carry himself like his mentor. It was a strategy Paul Heyman had implemented when Scott was working in OVW and Smackdown's writers and agents felt it would work on that show, too. Then Benoit's friends and road agents Dean Malenko and Fit Finlay decided that Scott was shamelessly copying Benoit and that his gimmick was too similar. They felt it was disrespectful and that Scott needed to forge an identity for himself. So they shipped him back to OVW, before releasing him after they came to the conclusion that he hadn't made the requisite changes to his gimmick or ring style. It was a senseless decision, since Scott clearly had a lot of potential. If Albright/Scott were to walk into the performance centre in 2015, he would not doubt get more of a look and probably be used in a more featured position. At 36-years-old and with a decreased presence in the business (he hasn't been seen in ROH for quite some time), the odds of that happening are incredibly slim.
