4. Rey Mysterio

It's terribly sad that the WWE career of Rey Mysterio -- one of the most talented wrestlers in history and one of the most successful WWE superstars of all time -- had to come to such an acrimonious end, but that's how things often work in wrestling. With his trademark mask, Mysterio proved to be a huge merchandise draw for the company, so when his contract came to an end in 2014, they weren't keen on seeing him leave. In fact, the company claimed that, due to time Mysterio missed due to injury, they were able to extend his contract for a year, and were doing just that.

Mysterio, anxious to leave and work a reduced schedule in Mexico, disputed WWE's right to extend his contract. He filmed a video for Triple A while still under WWE contract, announcing that he would be returning to the company soon, and he refused to cash his WWE paychecks. Finally, after several failed reconciliation attempts, WWE acquiesced, letting Mysterio go to compete in Triple A.

As Mysterio is now 40 years old and left WWE with a sour taste in his mouth, it's extremely difficult to ever imagine him working with the company again, save for a possible Hall of Fame induction.
