As the only star on this list to ever headline WrestleMania, Kurt Angle was truly a cornerstone of WWE. In 2006, though, following a period of injury and drug abuse, Angle left the company, with both Angle and WWE claiming the decision was theirs. In any event, Angle stated that WWE didn't take care of him during times he was injured, and he quickly joined TNA.

Angle has been with TNA since 2006, and despite further issues with drug and alcohol abuse, he seems to have finally gotten healthy. At the end of 2014, Angle announced that 2015 would be his last year in wrestling, and he would be signing a one-year contract with a mystery promotion. When he ended up back in TNA, fans weren't surprised, but Angle revealed that he did, in fact, attempt to go back to WWE for one final run. According to Angle, he spoke to Triple H, but the Executive Vice President had no interest in a return.

Whatever Triple H's motivation -- whether he had concerns about Angle's condition or simply wasn't willing to negotiate a contract that would allow the 46-year-old the time off he would need -- that lack of interest doomed any chance of one last Angle run in WWE. While a Hall of Fame induction isn't out ofthe  question, Angle will not be wrestling for WWE ever again.
