10 Former WWE Talents Who Thrived in Lucha Underground

6. Alberto El Patron (a.k.a. Alberto Del Rio)

Alberto El Patron is the only individual ever to have gone from WWE to Lucha Underground and back to WWE, and truth be told, Lucha Underground is where he should have stayed.

Del Rio was unceremoniously fired from WWE in August 2014 following a backstage altercation with a social media worker. It wasn't the best way for him to depart, but regardless, it was high time for him to leave for greener pastures.

As Alberto El Patron, he debuted in Lucha Underground in the latter half of the first season. You would have thought he was a god of some sort based off the reaction he received in The Temple when he arrived. The hero's homecoming he received was sensational. Him bringing the AAA Mega Championship to the promotion along with him was an added bonus.

While he didn't win many matches during his time there, he appeared to be more motivated than he had ever been before. He was right where he belonged. Despite losing to Johnny Mundo at Ultima Lucha, it was believed he would be brought back for Season 2, but that regretabbly wasn't the case.

Del Rio returned to WWE in October 2015 and immediately captured the United States Championship, but he hasn't done anything of note since. Is it too late to re-sign with Lucha Underground or has that bridge been burned?
