WWE fans still bemoan the decline of the career of Shelton Benjamin. There were few wrestlers in WWE who could match Benjamin in terms of pure athleticism. The guy was a beast who made the most impressive athletic feats look effortless. Benjamin was another one who was released from his WWE contract in 2010. Post-release Benjamin worked for Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. The have been intermittent reports of a Benjamin return to WWE but nothing has come of it. Now 40, Benjamin's best years are behind them. It's fair to say that WWE has officially missed the boat with him. But that's not to say that he couldn't still contribute, if used correctly. If he were to resurface on NXT, Shelton would be massively over with the crowd. His Money in the Bank escapades are still fresh in fans' memories. There are a few dream matches waiting for him, should he turn up in NXT. There would be buzz for Benjamin against Neville, Itami, Zayn, Balor and Owens. Although essentially retired, perhaps WWE could persuade Benjamin's former World's Greatest Tag Team partner Charlie Haas to come aboard for a match or two? There are many possibilities for Benjamin in NXT. As good and athletic as their roster is, perhaps he could teach them a trick or two.
