10 Friends Turned Foes In The UFC
5. TJ Dillashaw And Cody Garbrandt
Is this potentially the ugliest feud in MMA today?
We're of course talking about the always provocative TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt.
Leaving the two's former group,Team Alpha Male, former Head Coach, Duane Ludwig, became Dillashaw's personal coach and people felt that there was more than meets the eye with this decision.
Dillashaw would then leave Team Alpha Male or, as Urijah Faber put it, he was banished. Garbrandt took his mentor's side and instantly turned on Dillashaw as the enemy, immediately talking up a fight for a date in the future.
We wouldn't have to wait too long for that day as, a year and a half after Dillashaw's exit, the two were scheduled to face off.
One-upping each other over who got the better in sparring sessions and The Ultimate Fighter: 25 playing host to the two as coaches, made for must-see viewing.
A Garbrandt injury set the fight back by three months and things finally got uber personal when Faber and Garbrandt accused Dillashaw of ruining the career prospects of a young up and comer, Chris Holdsworth. Dillashaw apparently cheap shotted him in a sparring session and this led to a serious concussion that he wouldn't recover from.
Two brutally invested fights eventually followed and Dillashaw (who won both) was then suspended for two years - after losing to Henry Cejudo in a superfight - thanks to abnormal findings in a drug test and voluntarily dropped the Bantamweight title he had earned against Garbrandt.
Who doesn't love an epic rivalry with a few twists and turns, ey?
