10 Fun Facts About My Trip To WWE WrestleMania 23

10. Snukas On A Plane

After a few great days in New York, we got to La Guardia Airport, ready to head to Detroit, Michigan for WrestleMania weekend. I was reading the newest issue of Power Slam magazine at the gate, waiting for our flight to board, when I felt someone sit down behind me but never took any notice of who it was. Five minutes later, as I looked behind me to see the time on the screen, I noticed the person who has sat down was none other than Jimmy €œSuperfly€ Snuka. Almost unrecognisable in a blue tracksuit, the star looked like a shell of his former self sitting there in the departure area. I only recognised the Hall of Famer by his leopard coloured headband. I was excited to see Snuka but my friends had no idea who he was so I tried to quietly explain the significance of Superfly in the wrestling world, while my friends stared at this old man in a tracksuit and tried to piece it all together. As I watched him get on the plane, I went from being excited to feeling a bit sad. Nobody noticed Snuka at the gate or on board and he sat in one of the cramped economy seats near the back of the plane. He seemed pretty dejected, not like a legend on his way to be a part of wrestling€™s biggest weekend of the year. To think about how big a part of the wrestling landscape he was in the 1980s to seeing him like he was in 2007 was kinda heartbreaking to watch. Then again, his recent legal troubles have been a lot worse.
