10 Fun Facts About My Trip To WWE WrestleMania XX

8. I Fell In Love With Sherri Martel

While Miss Elizabeth was presented as the subtle but classy American Lady in the late 80€™s and early 1990€™s, in contrast, Sensational Sherri played an over-the-top, theatrical, maniacal bitch. She managed 'Macho King' Randy Savage, strutted to the ring with Ted DiBiase and was the cougar to Shawn Michaels' boy toy.

If I had a gun to my head and had to name my favourite female performer of all-time, it would be Sherri Martel. She was one of the only women who got in there with the men and wasn€™t afraid to slap, punch, kick, claw and do whatever it took to make sure her man got the victory in his match.

When I read online that the WrestleSlam convention in New Jersey on the Saturday of Mania weekend would include an appearance by Sensational Sherri, I had to be there. I walked into the convention room of the Crowne Plaza hotel and immediately scoured the room for Sherri.

I stood in the queue to meet her with my palms sweating wondering what she€™d be like in person. I said 'Hello' and told her I was a huge fan of hers and told her a couple of my favourite memories from her career. She beamed with a smile, grabbed me and hugged me like I was a family member and said €œWhy thank you darling, that€™s very sweet, the pleasure was all mine€.

She then signed this epic picture from backstage at WrestleMania VII and I walked away the happiest guy in the world.
