10 Fun Facts From My Trip To WWE WrestleMania XXVII

5. Watching Michael Cole Beat Up Jerry Lawler

People don't often admit it, but the match with the best build at WrestleMania XXVII was Jerry Lawler against Michael Cole. Lawler had always wanted a 'Mania match, Cole cost The King the title in his dispute with The Miz and the two entered a programme culminating in a match on the biggest show of the year. With Jack Swagger in Cole's corner and Stone Cold as the ref, this had all the ingredients to be the perfect special attraction match at WrestleMania. It started out well, but then a few minutes in we had to watch Michael Cole beat up Jerry Lawler for what felt like an hour. The play-by-play man could barely kick Lawler without it looking like he was grazing him ever so gently. It was the pits. Fortunately, The King eventually got the upper hand and all was right with the world as Jerry Lawler went on to win his first 'Mania match. That is until the decision was reversed, deflating the crowd and causing the feud to drag on for another three months. This was so tough to watch. It was such an easy match to put together but they screwed it up royally. At least Stone Cold was there to stunner some fools and make us feel just a little bit better.
