The rules of the Rumble match are well-established by now. Hell, it's not exactly rocket science: you go over the top rope and both feet touch the floor and you're eliminated. The precedent for self-elimination was set when Andre The Giant threw himself over the top and to the floor during the 1989 because he was so terrified of Jake Robert's pet snake Damien. It was funny then, in 1992, when Randy Savage flung jumped from the top rope to the floor and then re-entered the match a short time later. Yes, Macho Man had gotten caught up in the emotion of his rivalry with Jake Roberts and had momentarily forgotten the rules. Commentator Gorilla Monsoon tried to cover for Savage by saying that you could only be eliminated by somebody and couldn't eliminate yourself which everyone knew was a load of hogwash.
