6. The Rock Stooges Cena Off

After RAW, May 2nd 2011, Miami

This was the episode of RAW featuring The Rock’s birthday bash, and a few weeks leading out of WrestleMania XXVII where, as guest host, he’d misused his MC status to interfere in the WWE Championship match main event and cost John Cena an almost certain victory.

The night after, they’d made their historic match for the main event of WrestleMania XXVIII: that meant that anything The Rock did on RAW from then on would be furthering an ongoing angle between the two, and not just shooting the breeze.

After getting his birthday celebrated in high style (and following some uncharacteristically warm on-air words from Vincent Kennedy McMahon), The Rock had two kids brought into the confetti-and-balloon-peppered ring to celebrate with him... both of whom were wearing full Cena gear.

His main promos may still be scripted, but when he wants to - and especially when there are no constraints and he’s not wasting TV time on it - The Rock can still turn on that electrifying improvised charm like almost no one else.

Lightly mocking the kids for their obvious affiliation, he elicited a promise from them that they’d wear his merchandise next time RAW rolled through Miami, and then teased trying on a John Cena cap, the partisan crowd booing the living hell out of the very idea.

True to form, The Rock eventually stooged Cena off (I love that phrase) while pandering to the hometown fans, exclaiming “wait a minute - I'm a [Miami] Hurricane, I would never wear this!”.
