10 G1 Climax 27 Matches That You Need To See
6. Tomohiro Ishii Vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi (6/8/2017)
The only wrestling fans who have a bad word to say about Ishii are wrestling fans that haven’t watched enough Ishii matches. Yet, the man is somehow still underrated. At the age of 41, he is going out there and working at an insanely high-level. Whether it’s battling Kenny Omega or teaming with Toru Yano, you can rely on the Stone Pitbull.
So telling you that his match with Hiroshi Tanahashi was good almost feels like a waste of time. Of course it was good. It was one of the greatest wrestlers of a generation up against a man who is on a scorching hot streak. Anything less than a classic would have been a disappointment and these two men don’t do disappointments.
Despite it being day fourteen of the tournament, Tanahashi and Ishii went out there and gave it their all. Ishii growled in the face of the legend and threw everything into the elbows he delivered. Unfortunately for him, Tanahashi is an era defining talent for a reason and he was just that little bit quicker and that little bit smoother. None of which changes the fact that right now, Ishii is one of the best in-ring workers in the world.
