10 Gems That Saved Rotten Wrestling PPVs

2. Syxx Vs. Eddie Guerrero (WCW/nWo Souled Out 1997)

Kevin Nash summed it up best to Kayfabe Commentaries by pointing out the poignant fact that Souled Out 1997 opened with the nWo riding garbage trucks. That could be used as a metaphor for this terribly botched experiment, one that left the renegade group looking more like bloated fools than the hippest act in the industry.

Souled Out was an nWo-branded event, everything about it was designed to flaunt the group's superiority over WCW. What resulted was a decidedly one-sided card of matches that did indeed leave the actual company (y'know, World Championship Wrestling) looking second rate compared to a mere heel faction.

There was little of real value on the event, aside from a Ladder Match between Eddie Guerrero and Sean 'Syxx' Waltman. Seemingly determined to put on a match the show could be proud of, Guerrero and Syxx went out and finally had fans jumping up out of their seats.

Guerrero scored a rare win for the WCW crew in the battle against the nWo. Even Eric Bischoff and Ted DiBiase on commentary temporarily forgot they were supposed to be New World Order cheerleaders at points.
