It's safe to say the Asuka and Kairi Sane didn't have the best of starts to their life as a tag team.

Everything about the Kabuki Warriors - losing their first title match, being off TV for months and being given the laziest theme music in wrestling history (it was literally Asuka and Kairi's themes flipping back and forth every 15 seconds) - suggested that the team weren't exactly priority no.1 for WWE's booking committee.

The notoriously promo-centric WWE obviously thought a non-English speaking duo would struggle to get over, yet something miraculous happened. After turning heel the Kabukis began speaking exclusively in Japanese and, to the surprise of many, began getting cheered by crowds who had no idea what they were saying.

Turns out, if you have sufficient charisma (and Asuka and Kairi have it in spades), what you say isn't as important as how you say it. Wrestling fans respond to passion, and the Kabukis sheer delight in delivering promos in their native tongue allowed them to engage with the audience despite the language barrier.
