Let there be no doubt: this was all shoot, no work. WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi essentially walked out during the 16 May episode of Monday Night RAW. WWE released an official statement, announcing that Banks and Naomi "walked into WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis' office with their suitcases in hand, placed their tag team championship belts on his desk and walked out".
The popularity of women's wrestling has been on a rapid increase over the last several years, and WWE has arguably been on the forefront of that effort. Two of their biggest female stars have been Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi. It speaks volumes for not just Sasha and Naomi's frustrations with the company, but their own perceived value on the current market.
There has been talk that the pair's WWE contracts are expiring soon, and that the company may freeze those contracts. This may leave them no choice but to sit out the contracts or get back to work for Mr. McMahon.
No offense to Kenny Omega, but the AEW women's division needs a shot in the arm. Sasha and Naomi could bring enough star power to reinvigorate the roster and show what they can do when the reins are off.
