9. CM Punk Buys Joey Mercury's House
CM Punk is still something of a hot-button topic amongst wrestling fans due to his leaving the WWE and jumping ship to the UFC. Opinions fall under many categories, from those who are genuinely happy for Punk because he is chasing a dream to those who feel that he is unappreciative of the business that gave him the star power to chase that dream in the first place. Whatever your opinion of Punk, in the ring he was one of the best wrestlers of this generation, often portraying a character that was extremely arrogant and very much appreciative of himself and little else. While many would argue that this is simply an extension of Punk as a person, especially given some of the interviews he has given in the past, his Best in the World DVD highlighted a different aspect to his personality. A story told by Joey Mercury, who is currently back on WWE television as part of Seth Rollins' security team, demonstrates that Punk has an unwavering loyalty to his friends no matter what the situation. Back in 2007 Mercury was struggling with substance abuse problems and had recently been let go by the WWE. The problem had gotten to the point where he was in danger of losing his house. Punk simply wrote a cheque, that Mercury claims was in the six figures, to buy Mercurys house and ensure his friend wouldnt end up on the streets.
