10 Gimmick Matches WWE Should NEVER Book Again
1. Anything On A Pole
Fire up the WWE Network, head over to the WCW section, watch Vince Russo-era Nitro and you'll see an alarming number of 'Object On A Pole' scraps. Russo was obsessed with these, and his legacy has carried on for a good 20 years. The latest example was Elias vs. Jeff Hardy on the 2 November Raw.
Their 'Guitar On A Pole' bout was rather uninspiring.
That shouldn't come as a surprise. These 'Pole' duds are regularly tough to sit through, and the item wrestlers have to scramble for is rarely dangerous enough to make it worthwhile. Why would Hardy bother scaling for one of Eli's balsa-wood guitars when he could clock his rival with a weapon from under the ring instead. Sure, he might lose the match (depending on the leniency of the DQ rules), but so what?
It's not like beating Elias in some hokey gimmick match on Raw is going to define the 43-year old's run.
Wrestling has put everything from instruments and kendo sticks to gift boxes and even human beings 'On A Pole' (or, in Judy Bagwell's case, 'On A Forklift') over the years. It's time to end this nonsense for good.
