10 Gimmicks That WWE Milked Dry

7. Interference & Distractions

Put on any WWE show or PPV from the last 30 years, and you will witness multiple instances of wrestlers interfering in matches or distracting a competitor. On rare occasions, the hokey finish can help further a feud or a character, but more often than not, it's a lazy ending that renders the match meaningless.

The idea behind the gimmick is that the loser doesn't look weak in defeat or to prevent a straight loss for either wrestler. Although most fans can probably handle a clean loss, WWE seems to believe they are absolutely devastating. Once the company has invested in a performer, it's unlikely to let them lose without shenanigans. Unfortunately, there isn't truly an issue with a main eventer doing the job. One loss isn't crippling as long as more victories are surrounding it.

Nevertheless, when WWE needs to toss out a clean finish (most of the time), it resorts to a cheap victory or throwing out the match altogether. Sometimes, the device works with the likes of Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre (although it does seem like a lazy finish), but by large, it falls flat and comes off as needless. Given the amount of interference and distractions during episodes of Raw and SmackDown, a fan could almost tune in just for the PPVs without missing a decisive moment.
