10 Gimmicks WWE Needs To Bring Back In 2017 (And Who Should Use Them)

6. The Understandably Frustrated Foreigner

Professional wrestling has plied the evil foreigner furrow for way too long. A decade ago a character arrived on our screens who seemed as though they were going to subvert the trope. His name was Muhammad Hassan, and his initial statements were all about how he was getting a rough roll by the American people because of his appearance and ethnicity.

Of course, this all went south with hooded men and chicken wire, but for a brief moment the Hassan character looked progressive. As the US enters the new world of Trump 2016, the fears of Americans who weren't born white, straight and upper class are true.

This one isn't going to happen, but why not introduce a sympathetic character? Sure, it would more than likely go south because xenophobia, but one can dream. Ariya Daivari, give it a go.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
