10 Gimmicks WWE Refuse To Give Up On

3. Cult Leader

It feels as though it's been quite some time since we had our last cult leader lay waste to WWE's landscape with the help of some devoted followers, but rest assured it will be only a matter of time before McMahon decides to band a group of meandering entities together to follow a star he has big plans for.

Bray Wyatt and his entrusted Wyatt Family are a glaring example of just this. Erick Rowan and Luke Harper (also Braun Strowman for a while) lacked any real direction so, with the boss/Triple H clearly high on Bray Wyatt, the group were enlisted to reinforce the authority and threat of Wyatt's character - to little reward in the end.

CM Punk's Straight Edge Society also stand out as an example of getting a stifled star over, whilst also giving the underutilised talents of Luke Gallows, Joey Mercury and Serena a chance to shine.

An example of the underused talents overtaking their Cult Leader - in being over terms that is - would be The Brood. Edge and Christian definitely came out of Gangrel's blood sucking posse with a rocket attached to their back, whereas their leader fizzled out of the picture altogether.

Cult Leaders have a tendency to elevate all who follow them, so you can see why WWE aren't quick to give this one a rest just yet. Who knows, AJ Styles could transform the O.C. into his own personal terror cult before 2019 is up.
