10 Great Matches That Inadvertently Ruined Wrestling

Roman Reigns was the odd man out of the Shield when the faction first appeared on TV screens in November. Message boards everywhere bemoaned the fact that indy darlings Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were not joined by a third in Kassius Ohno.

To his credit, Reigns performed the destroyer role so believably that, by December, fans accepted him in it, thanks in no small part to a fantastic, much-imitated sequence in their debut pay-pay-view offering. As would become the norm, Rollins and Ambrose sidelined Daniel Bryan and Ryback with their respective rabid assaults and precise aerial game. Then Reigns, the scavenger, smashed the prone Kane through the ringside barricade with a brutal-looking spear. It was at that point fans chanted "This is awesome!"

It seems you will never again hear those words in conjunction with Reigns ever again, at least un-ironically. The favourable reactions he received after essentially performing the five moves of doom for which John Cena was criticised in parallel enabled WWE to continue with his insidious push. Eventually, his aura had been so well built that he generated massive split reactions on a consistent basis. He was a singles star by 2014. Three years later, WWE is still positioning him in the same stale mode.

Reigns is actually a dynamite performer on his day. He's just not a very good nor sympathetic babyface.
