10 Great TNA Matches You Completely Forgot About

8. Petey Williams Vs. Chris Sabin - Turning Point 2004

Petey Williams will surely go down as one of the most underrated performers in the history of TNA. He was the first real pillar of the X-Division, the solid arrogant but capable heel who acted as an anchor for AJ Styles and others to fly around him. His title reign was the first X-Division reign I truly remember too, so maybe I'm putting a Petey match a little high.

Sabin has always been great too, so a singles match between the two without any gimmickry involved was almost certainly going to be great. The story going in was that Sabin claimed to have a counter to the Canadian Destroyer, and whilst we ignore how ridiculous this is (there have been piledriver counters as long as the piledriver has been around) the two more than made it work.

This was your standard X-Division fare back in 2004, by which I mean it was absolutely fantastic. Williams ended up winning and retaining thanks to some handily-placed (as in placed on his hand) brass knucks.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
