10 Great TNA Matches You Completely Forgot About

5. Christian Cage Vs. Kaz - Genesis 2007

Kaz? What? Who? Well, after Frankie Kazarian's ill-fated WWE jaunt came to an end he returned to TNA, but rather than just come back as 'Franke Kazarian' TNA made the decision to put him in Raven's latest Flock. The group was called 'Serotonin', and Frankie Kazarian joined Havok (Johnny Devine) and Martyr (Matt Bentley) as Kaz. Kazarian would soon break from the group, but kept the Kaz name.

This was the moment that you thought that yeah, maybe TNA are going to run with Kazarian at the top. They had a tendency to do this TNA, all the way back to a few years prior with Chris Harris and Monty Brown. Kaz was up against Christian Cage here in a ladder match, a match that the multi-time WWE secondary champion (and two-time World Heavyweight Champion) is something of an expert in.

Kaz pulled out the victory and became the #1 Contender to the TNA World Championship in the process. Christian put in a hell of a performance, getting busted open pretty nastily above the eye, but this was Kaz's night, a star-making performance if ever there should have been one.

The finish was innovative at the time too, the first time I remember seeing an individual balance themselves on the ladder on the top rope and kick back into a position to pull down the prize.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
