10 Great Wrestlers Who Never Got Over In WWE

5. Apollo Crews

The former Uhaa Nation has done nothing in WWE, but he is guaranteed to be a fixture on these sorts of lists for decades to come. When he signed with the company back in 2015, fans were all sorts of excited about his future. Here was a hugely talented dude, as athletic as anyone on the roster with the body of an actual God. He also happened to be super handsome. A megastar in waiting, surely?

Well, five years have passed since those halcyon days and it feels as though Apollo’s ship sailed long ago. At no point has he seemed established, not on NXT, not on RAW, not on SmackDown. When was the last time Apollo Crews received a big reaction from the WWE Universe? His lack of success is another great indictment of modern-day WWE creative.

Crews has had little opportunity, in truth. If you can name an Apollo Crews feud that captivated the audience, you are a wrestling historian and a half. Or a liar. There have been moments when it seemed as though WWE could accidentally stumble onto something (most notably as part of Titus Worldwide), but these have always fizzled out into dust. Apollo Crews is as ‘can’t-miss’ as it gets, yet WWE didn’t even come close.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
