10 Great Wrestling Feuds With Awful Payoff Matches

4. Chris Jericho Vs. Goldberg

Back during their time together in WCW, Chris Jericho famously stirred up a huge amount of interest in seeing him getting his ass kicked by Bill Goldberg.

Despite zero input or interest from Goldberg himself, Jericho would take constant jabs at Da Man, as the Canadian began to amass his own particular winning streak against Goldberg. Of course, this wasn’t a real win streak and Jericho was simply claiming random victories, but that perfectly played into his jackass persona of the time. Jericho was a heel, chatting sh*t, outright lying, and brilliantly getting the fans eager to see Jericho and the former NFL star butt heads in a match. Granted, Goldberg would likely destroy Jericho in a matter of minutes with his trusty Spear/Jackhammer combo, but it would at least be some semblance of payback for all of the BS Jericho had been spouting.

What was the payoff to all of this? Nothing at all. Goldberg – who was clearly a big-time power player in WCW by that point – shot down any idea of working with Jericho, deeming the size difference between the two as making any match unrealistic. Instead, all we got was a brief Spear on Jericho during a TV segment. No match, no ass-kicking, no promo exchanges, no payoff.

The pair would later meet in a WWE ring, with Goldberg getting the best of Jericho as Bill began his climb towards Triple H’s World Heavyweight Championship.
