10 Great Wrestling Pairings That Didn't Last Long Enough

3. Chris Jericho And Chris Benoit

Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit had fairly similar careers upon entering the WWF. They were extremely talented and hardworking individuals who were over with the fans, but were badly overlooked by WCW management.

When they joined the WWF, their woes continued, as they both struggled to reach main event status. Creative had them feud with each other for a bit, instead of giving them top stars to work with. While they produced a series of great matches, they were still waiting for their big break. Finally it happened when Steve Austin turned heel.

Benoit and Jericho were placed together in a tag team, and set off to battle The Power Trip. It was the culmination of what they’d been fighting for, as they soon found themselves in the biggest storyline in the company.

In a fantastic main event of Raw, they captured the Tag Titles from Steve Austin and Triple H. It seemed like two new stars were born, and they were going to have months worth of great matches ahead of them.

Why They Split: Unfortunately, in that big match Hunter blew out one of his quads and the new champs suddenly didn’t have a top team to work with. In another stroke of bad luck, Benoit was soon injured in a fantastic fatal-four way Tables, Ladders and Chairs match. You can only imagine how many more great matches we missed out on due to those injures.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
