If you've ever wondered why people hate Triple H so much, look no further than 2003. In that particular year, Triple H was the World Heavyweight champion. During this time, former WCW world champion Booker T was gaining some steam in the midcard. He had formed a successful tag team with Goldust and fans were actually getting behind the wrestler from Houston, Texas. He amicably split from Goldust to pursue the world title and won a battle royal, last eliminating the Rock, to earn a title shot at WrestleMania XIX. Then, it all went downhill very quickly. On an episode of Raw, Triple H cut a promo that simultaneously made him look like an idiot, ruined Booker T, and made WWE as a company look incredibly racist. First, Hunter called the WCW title a "joke", noting that David Arquette and Vince Russo won it, rendering it useless. Of course, to buy that you have to ignore the fact that the World Heavyweight title Triple H held actually was the WCW world title with a different name. Then it got worse. Hunter then went on a racist tirade, making fun of Booker's "nappy hair" and saying that "people like" Booker T weren't championship material. Their only job was to dance around and entertain "people like" Triple H. He then brought up Booker's mugshot from the 1980s to really drive the point home. So many people complained about the segment that WWE went into damage control. They had Hunter claim at a press conference that he wasn't being racist at all, merely being a heel. Of course, Booker lost the match after taking the Pedigree and laying around on the mat for almost 30 seconds before Hunter covered him for the win.
