The Undertaker features twice on this list, and both times a messy disqualification was necessary in order to continue the feud towards a Hell in a Cell climax. The later of these was accentuated by a need to keep Brock Lesnar strong, to make the Next Big Thing seem on the level of Big Evil when it came to brawling and all-out violence.

This match gets a fair amount of shade thrown at it, and whilst a certain amount of that is vindicated I feel the match isn't anywhere near as bad as many like to think it is. In fact, it is actually quite clever. Lesnar hadn't met anyone who could match him as of then, so this presented a new challenge for the hottest thing in professional wrestling.

The match was thrown out when things got out of hand, but as unpopular it seems that is the sort of finish that really should happen more often. It gives that impression of realism that we so want in our wrestling, and also makes the referee look like an actual official as opposed to a prop in a striped shirt.

It also created the road to a match with no rules, the Hell in a Cell classic that would come a month later.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
