10 Great WWE Raw Matches That Came From Out Of Nowhere
3. Eddie Guerrero Vs. Triple H (Raw Draft 2004)
Good God the 2004 WWE draft was a steaming pile of nothing. With such extraordinary talents like Mark Jindrak, Rene Dupree and Tough Enough winner Nidia changing brands, the show needed a serious shot in the arm, which it got courtesy of Triple H being drafted to the blue brand.
Momentarily, anyway, since Bischoff would trade Booker T AND the Dudleys in order to get The Game back on Raw. That came to light later but as the show was in progress, Trips was a Smackdown performer. Smackdown GM Paul Heyman, looking to mix things up, convinced Vince McMahon to allow the Cerebral Assassin and Smackdown's Champion Eddie Guerrero clash in the main event.
The two man hadn't really had much interaction with each other at all over the years, so this one had genuine intrigue. They kept things simple in the early going, with the smaller Guerrero controlling his larger opponent with arm drags and other throws.
Triple H eventually gained the advantage after hurtling Latino Heat into the ringside steps and continue to methodically work on his lower back. Eddie, in typical Eddie fashion, managed to fire up and pull of a headscissors takedown, a back suplex and a succulent jumping tornado DDT.
The Three Amigos rolling verticals seemed to signal that a Frog Splash was next, when Triple H's Evolution stablemates Batista and Ric Flair came out and distracted him long enough for their leader to hit his foe with a DDT.
Shawn Michaels swiftly arrived on the scene with a Sweet Chin Music to even things up, before Christian thwarted Eddie's comeback and officially caused the DQ. Then the locker rooms emptied and we had a rather predictable Smackdown Vs. Raw brawl around ringside to close the show.
Still, the match was going along swimmingly until the f*ck finish.
