10 Greatest Cage Matches On The WWE Network
4. Mankind vs Triple H - SummerSlam 97
This match came at a time when WWE was on the ropes, but about to mount a tremendous comeback. Much of that was led by a bald man who suffers a horrific botched piledriver in the semi-main event, but opening the card are two stars whose immense chemistry would be a big part of some terrific stuff going forward.
Neither HHH nor Mankind are fully formed here, the former still a Connecticut blueblood, the latter yet to supplement the madness with the joliness that makes Foley such an enduring star. In the ring, though, they’re dynamite, Mankind’s unpredictable brawling a perfect match for Helmsley’s entitled heel work.
HHH’s then-valet Chyna does terrific work at ringside, too, keeping the odds stacked in her man’s favour and sending the cage door crunching into Mick’s poor rattled noggin.
In a taste of things to come, Foley reaches the top of the cage before sacrificing the win in favour of a tribute to Jimmy Snuka, hitting a colossal elbow before climbing once more to escape the cage. A tremendously fun sprint from two guys with way more in the tank.
