10 Greatest Calls Of Jim Ross’ Career
3. WrestleMania X-Seven
WrestleMania X-Seven will go down in history as one of the
greatest WrestleManias of all time—and quite rightfully so. But while most of
that success is down to the in-ring performers, you can’t deny the impact that
JR had on commentary.
First-off we heard some great calls during the manic Tables, Ladders, and Chairs bout between Edge and Christian, the Hardy Boyz, and the Dudley Boyz. Arguably the pick of the bunch was his response to Edge’s colossal spear to Jeff Hardy from atop a ladder, with JR postulating that “Jeff Hardy may be broken smack damned in half.”
And it only got better from there on in once the main event rolled around. In one of the biggest heel turns of all time, Stone Cold Steve Austin aligned himself with Vince McMahon, and JR left us in no doubt where he stood on the situation.
As Austin shook hands with the very man he’d previously spent years terrorising, JR was compelled to beg the question “what the hell is this?” before confirming our worst of fears with the line “Stone Cold is shaking hands with Satan himself.”
Simple it may have been, but it was certainly effective.
