10 Greatest Debuts In Modern Wrestling History

7. Sting

One of the most loved pro wrestlers of all time, Sting's arrival in AEW will live forever due to both its execution and what it symbolized. Everyone loves 'The Stinger's run in WCW, both as 'Surfer Sting' and his bat-wielding tribute to 'The Crow', and TNA diehards will swear by his less-seen run in that company, but Vince McMahon's booking of this legend during his short WWE run ranks among the most dispicable creative decisions he ever made.

Appearing at one WrestleMania, where he suffered a loss to Triple H, most expected Sting to retire quietly. At Winter Is Coming on a cold December night on Dynamite, as Team Taz ran roughhouse on Cody Rhodes, Arn Anderson, Dustin Rhodes, and Darby Allin, Sting made his AEW debut. With an aesthetically perfect glacial presentation, the lights went out, and the sound of a blizzard seeped over the PA at Daily's Place.

As a crow cawed and snow fell from the sky, a scorpion appeared on the screen, before giving way to Sting's name appearing in lights. Tony Schiavone's iconic cry of "IT'S STING!" filled the air once more, and Sting's presence was all that was needed to make this feel epic. As he sauntered to the ring, the small socially distanced crowd lost their minds as Sting began his final run in pro wrestling. That it's one of his best is a testament that form is temporary, but Sting is forever.
