10 Greatest Final Two Competitors In The WWE Royal Rumble
4. Sheamus & Chris Jericho (2012)
This isn’t the most memorable Rumble, neither is it the most inspiring winner. As far as final clashes go, though, 2012 takes some beating. The fast rising Sheamus and the veteran Chris Jericho gave the crowd something brilliant to take home after a solid if unexceptional bout.
It’s simple enough stuff – a wise decision is made to give the final two performers the time and space to really go off, tell a story, and have the audience split on who they expect to win. While Y2J was of course by far the bigger star, and the favourite going into the final swerve, Sheamus was clearly no schmuck, and is booked to look like a real warrior here.
The two go back and forth at a tremendous pace, and the crispness of the action is heightened by the fact that this was not a stale combination. They may not have locked up much prior, but the two have great chemistry on as big a platform as you can get.
The genuine unpredictability and epic feel make this an underrated Royal Rumble moment. There are pairings with bigger star power, but these two had a point to prove.
