10 Greatest Final Two Competitors In The WWE Royal Rumble
2. Triple H & Kurt Angle (2002)
A fantastic Rumble deserved, and received, a fantastic finish. The final four of a returning Mr Perfect, Austin, Triple H and Kurt Angle takes some beating, and when it comes down to The Game and the Olympic Champ, the drama ramps up several more notches.
With Angle entering one of the finest periods of his career and HHH in superb comeback shape, you know you’re in for a bruising heavyweight clash, and the two take time to psych up the crowd, with Kurt dropping his straps and Hunter getting in the zone, intensity personified.
Both men are totally believable winners (even though the mammoth entrance given to Trips, returning from a grievous injury, sort of gives the game away), and they’ve a history of good to great matches between them to work with. These guys are pros, and they expertly tease a few false finishes before Angle is finally sent sailing for HHH’s big win.
It’s a cracking final push by masters of the craft, selling the Rumble as a prize worth winning and keeping the crowd totally invested at the close of a bruising, brilliant match.
