10 Greatest Final Two Competitors In The WWE Royal Rumble
1. Undertaker & Shawn Michaels (2007)
An obvious choice? Sure, but really, what else could it have been? Not only did this serve as a crescendo to the 2007 Rumble, it served as a mouth-watering preview for these legends’ pair of matches at subsequent WrestleManias a few years down the line, and as they would at the Show of Shows, Michaels and ‘Taker stole the show here.
Every ingredient is just right. The two had clashed in some memorable matches during HBK’s first run, but since his return, they’d barely locked up. Either would be a more than worthy winner. Most importantly, they both know a thing or two about how to work.
It starts beautifully, with the simultaneous kip up/sit up, and just goes wild from there. They don’t go so much for the crazy near falls and huge sequences that would define their ‘Mania classics; this is simple but super effective stuff, two great competitors desperate to add to their legacies.
This is the closest the Rumble comes to a genuine match within a match, and the performers never rely on gimmicks or cheap pops – they just go out there and demonstrate why they’re two of the best of the business, deserving of the headline spot.
