10 Greatest In-Ring Alliances In WWE Royal Rumble History
6. The Bella Twins - 2018
2018 saw the first Women's Royal Rumble match, a monumental moment for the Women's Division. Although it was advertised to feature past and present stars, one downside was a lack of roster depth.
Perhaps WWE brass felt there weren't enough current stars ready for such an iconic match; nonetheless, the first Women's Rumble match was overwhelmed with surprise appearances. There were 12 guests plus Stephanie McMahon on commentary for 13...because she single-handedly changed women's pro-wrestling across the world.
Some of the cameos were welcomed (e.g. Trish Stratus), whereas others (e.g. Kelly Kelly) were agitating. Luckily, most of the throwbacks were for a chuckle (Vickie Guerrero) or nostalgia (Lita). There were a couple of returns, though, that were a bit controversial.
Coming out at #27 and #28, The Bella Twins joined the fray. While Nikki and Brie made a splash during their day, they were associated with the Divas Era more than the Women's Revolution. Some fans didn't feel The Bellas earned the right to hang with current performers in such a capacity.
Regardless, Nikki and Brie made it to the final three, where they stood in Asuka's way to WrestleMania glory. Ultimately, their appearances served a symbolic purpose (Current Era overcoming Diva Era), and the match itself received a noticeable ovation. Too bad WWE chose that night to debut Ronda Rousey then, who vetoed competing in the Rumble and opted to confront Asuka and the reigning champs directly instead.
