10 Greatest Manager/Wrestler Combinations Ever

1. Paul Heyman & Brock Lesnar

Professional wrestling is littered with great partnerships between a manager and an in-ring performer, but the greatest in history may not even truly have that relationship.

No, Paul Heyman is Brock Lesnar's advocate, Lesnar his client. The wording is irrelevant however, as the two have been absolutely vital to each other not just over the last few years, but in the initial years of the latter's career too.

Imagining Lesnar without Heyman at this point isn't just difficult, it is also something of a waste of time. Heyman has truly excelled in his role as spokesperson for the Beast Incarnate, allowing Lesnar to bounce around intimidatingly in the background as Heyman spins the yarn like only he can.

Heyman and Lesnar are the perfect mixture of brains and brawn, of intellect and intensity, of smarts and suplexes. Heyman is something of a throwback in the most modern of ways, a character who seemingly manages his client both onscreen and offscreen, but also has the understanding and skill-set required of any pro wrestling character in the modern age.

Lesnar? Well, he just beats people up. That's his job. Heyman can do the talking. They are as good as a manager/wrestler combination can get.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
