10 Greatest Manager/Wrestler Combinations Ever

2. Paul Bearer & The Undertaker

This writer has a confession to make; it wasn't until my early 20s that the play on words of these two and their association with each other hit home.

Until then, I always considered Paul Bearer to be a guy who managed the Undertaker and had the first name Paul, last name Bearer because that was just his name. Colour me stupid.

There may not be a more iconic wrestler/manager combination in the history of sports entertainment. When The Undertaker arrived on the scene he was initially managed by Brother Love, but the reigns were swiftly passed over to Mr. Bearer. The Deadman's career sky-rocketed from there.

Bearer's high-pitched, shrill voice and horror movie mannerisms worked perfectly with the zombie mortician, and Bearer well and truly commanded the ringside area.

His status as a true wrestling veteran also afforded Taker room to learn and grow as a performer under experienced guiding hands.

Without Paul Bearer, who knows what would of become of Taker in those early days. As it was, the two would go on to have the most legendary of careers both together and apart.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
