If you count the ECW championship, all six of SmackDown’s crown jewels held world titles. With the greatest respect to Mysterio and Chavo, though, the four men in this match were the real main eventers, with Edge, especially, remaining a major player in the World/Heavyweight Championship scene for the remainder of his career.

He is the star of the show here, about as over as he has ever been. He is taken out by Albert prior to the match, valiantly returning just as the tussle begins. Typically for a fatal four way, things are a little chaotic at the start, with superstars flying in and out of the ring. The real juice starts once Benoit and Guerrero have had their marching orders, as Edge and Angle proceed to put on an absolute clinic. Near fall after near fall occurs, but it’s never gratuitous; in every instance, you could very well believe the match is over with.

Edge hits Angle with his own finisher, but even that’s not enough, and a top rope Angle slam finally finishes off the Rated R Superstar. Angle wins a shot against the Big Show for the Heavyweight title, but the real winners are SmackDown’s bookers, for having stars with such chemistry in their ranks.
