Stone Cold needed a new partner to face Owen Hart and the British Bulldog for the World Tag Team Championships, after Shawn Michaels had been kayfabe injured. In reality, Michaels had briefly walked out on the company after a backstage fight with Bret Hart.
Austin refused help from the demented Mankind and decided, in typical Stone Cold fashion, to go it alone. Midway through the match, another face of Foley - Dude Love - debuted on the titantron to insert himself as Austin's partner, to the bemusement of everybody including the Texas Rattlesnake. Minutes later, the unlikely duo were crowned tag champs.
This was a reveal which was surprising and amusing in equal measure, and gave birth to a popular team, albeit one which didn’t last long. It was also an introduction to the lighter side of Foley, which we would see in greater volume when he aligned with The Rock.
