10 Greatest Randy Orton Matches Ever
1. Randy Orton Vs. Cactus Jack - No Holds Barred (Backlash 2004)
Yes, Randy Orton's best match at Backlash and, arguably, his 'Greatest Wrestling Match Ever' was against Mick Foley's blood-thirsty persona, Cactus Jack. You could even argue that it wasn't a wrestling match. Instead, a brutal, bloody and hardcore "slobber knocker".
The stipulation would challenge the third generation superstar, in and out of character, in two ways. Firstly, Orton had never competed in this kind of match before; the closest thing to it was when he participated in the Elimination Chamber match at SummerSlam 2003. Secondly, Evolution was banned from ringside. The only help the Intercontinental Champion would get would be midway through when Eric Bischoff threatened to shut the show down if Cactus Jack were to use fire.
Interestingly, this was a match that Orton accepted upon its proposal, rather than being ordered into it. A decision he would later regret, being thrown into thumbtacks and hurled off the stage to name a few of the nasty bumps he took.
Mick Foley's gimmick match complemented Orton's persona at the time and, by the end of it, Orton had earned everyone's respect. Thus began his transformation from 'The Legend Killer' into a, just simply, a legend.
