10 Greatest Special Guest Referee Performances In WWE

2. Shawn Michaels, Judgement Day 2000

Look at that picture. That, right there (plus one more match that you've probably guessed by now) is the reason Shawn Michaels is the greatest special referee of all time. He's not always front and centre, but when you watch these matches back you'll catch another HBK facial expression or movement you didn't see the first time around. He's the orange balloon in Reservoir Dogs or the single frame of Tyler Durden in Fight Club.

In the interest of fairness, Shawn Michaels' involvement in this ranking has been kept to a minimum, yet he still takes up 40% of the entries here. Having wrestled in the first Iron Man match in WWE, HBK decided to referee one; naturally, it had to involve his best buddy/worst enemy, Triple H.

In true Attitude Era fashion, many run-ins and outside shenanigans took place; lucky for us fans, we got 56 minutes of beautiful build before DX and the McMahons appeared from the back to position themselves as fodder for a returning Undertaker. Michaels didn't have a whole lot to do here, but the tiny details (like his tiny shorts) were expertly peppered across an all-time great main event.
