6. Lance Archer Vs. Marko Stunt - AEW Dynamite (April 1st 2020)

Lance Archer
AEW/Lee South

'Everybody dies' is Lance Archer's gloriously over-the-top badass motto - even innocent bystanders die on his way to the ring - but surely, the death of Marko Stunt is implied.

It is implied so hard that it's past tense.

In every simulation of a Lance Archer Vs. Marko Stunt match, Marko Stunt dies. Lance Archer is an agile hard bastard of a giant, and while Marko Stunt wrestles like he doesn't know how small he is, he's very, very, very small. It is very unnecessary - and damn near irresponsible - to book such a match in reality. But AEW did because, in reality, it made for a phenomenally ghoulish sight gag and dramatically effective theatre. There can be no pissing and moaning about Marko Stunt now, incidentally.

He played his role fabulously, but still, his detractors almost got their wish. Were it not for the turnbuckle he splattered against, when Archer yeeted f*ck out of him with a release standing suplex, there's a strong chance he might have disappeared off the face of the earth. This was followed by a pounce that sent Stunt flying out of the ring, and it was hardly fair: Stunt barely had the speed advantage in this awful game.

A disturbing but deliciously fun crime scene, Stunt was murdered from terrifying heights in the most perfect showcase imaginable of Archer's power and range - but few imagined it, because the punchline was so twisted.
