10 Greatest World Title Changes That Didn't Take Place On PPV
3. Y2J Plays The Game - Raw (17 April 2000)
Chris Jericho was one of the most popular members of the WWF roster in 2000. In fact, it can be to argued he was at his very peak during this very period, and his love affair with the fans was never more evident than on the 17 April edition of Raw.
After bating Triple H into putting his WWF Championship on the line during their scheduled one-on-one bout at the opening of the show, fans were treated to an impromptu title match live on Monday Night Raw. During the height of the war with WCW, anything could happen in the WWF and the title had changed several times on Raw by this point. Would the fans witness WWF history just two weeks after WrestleMania?
The answer to that question is "sort of", as they did indeed witness history, but it was history with an asterisk beside it. With the title on the line, Jericho took the fight to Triple H, causing the champion to become increasingly frustrated. 'The Game' eventually took said frustrations out on referee, Earl Hebner, allowing Jericho to hit a Lionsault out of nowhere to incredibly seal the win.
Unfortunately for the rabid fans in attendance, the decision was reversed later that night, with Hebner forced to return the WWF Title to Triple H as a result of his own fast count.
