10 Greatest World Title Changes That Didn't Take Place On PPV
2. Austin Dances With The Deadman - Raw (28 June 1999)
After defeating 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin at the infamous Over The Edge PPV in 1999, The Undertaker had a huge target on his back as WWF Champion. Without his title, Austin was out for revenge and looked to regain his coveted WWF Championship from demonic 'Deadman' on the 28 June edition of Raw a month later.
With the venomous 'Rattlesnake' coiled and ready to strike, 'Taker had his hands full when they stood toe-to-toe in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Charlotte Coliseum was no stranger to historic championship matches and this night would prove to be just that. One night after King of the Ring '99, Austin became WWF kingpin once more, pinning 'The Phenom' after a Stone Cold Stunner.
The match drew the biggest rating in the history of Monday Night Raw, an astronomical 9.5. To put that into context, it translated to around one every in six houses in America watching the events unfold. With 10.7 million people watching, the match even topped the much-vaunted "This Is Your Life" segment between Mankind and The Rock (which achieved an 8.4 rating).
The viewing figures proved to be a huge milestone for Vince McMahon and proved that pro wrestling in 1999 was something it has seldom been considered to be - legitimate mainstream entertainment.
