For international readers, Rey Mysterio might be the most recognizable figure on this list. A staple of Mexican and American wrestling that has fought against the best and the worst since his professional debut back in 1992. Almost 30 years later, he is now a regular in the star line-up for WWE Raw, where he is considered one of the best acrobatic fighters of all time.

Born in San Diego, California, in 1974, Óscar Gutiérrez learned the luchador trade from his father, Rey Mysterio Sr. Both men are Americans with Mexican roots, so Lucha Libre was both a matter of family legacy and a statement on cultural heritage.

Rey Mysterio Jr. was his moniker when he debuted in Mexican rings. After a long journey, Rey Mysterio (his name in the present) went back to the US and stayed to amaze viewers with his gymnastic and energetic style. He recently sustained a "significant" injury, when he was attacked by Seth Rollins during Monday Night RAW (11 May 2020):
