10 Greatest Wrestling Families

6. The DiBiases

Ted DiBiase Sr. is a unique case because not one, but both of his parents were professional wrestlers. Ted's mother, Helen Hild, was an accomplished women's wrestler and, in her travels, she met Ted's eventual adoptive father, Mike DiBiase. Mike Dibiase was a wrestler all through territories during the 1960s, winning championships all around the country. Unfortunately, Mike DiBiase also has the distinction of being one of the few wrestlers to actually die in the ring during a match. In 1969, DiBiase suffered a heart attack during a match and died on the way to the hospital despite the efforts of Harley Race performing CPR. Ted originally intended to play football but an injury his senior year prompted him to drop out of West Texas State and try his hand at professional wrestling. A great run as part of the Rat Pack in Mid South Wrestling led to Ted being offered a job in the WWF shortly following Wrestlemania III. Ted was introduced to the WWF through a series of brilliant skits that were designed to showcase him as a man of wealth. Calling himself the Million Dollar Man, Ted would pay for small purchases with $100 bills and offer fans money to humiliate themselves on television, proving that "everyone has a price." DiBiase was actually booked on first class flights and was given a stipend by Vince McMahon in order to throw some money around and make the character more believable. He would overtip in bars and pick up entire restaurant's checks just to show off the money. DiBiase became a major part of the WWF's main event scene when he purchase the WWF title following Andre the Giant controversially defeating Hulk Hogan on The Main Event. As a result, a title tournament was set up for Wrestlemania IV where Ted DiBiase would lose in the finals to Randy Savage. Following other various feuds, DiBiase would win the tag titles with IRS in 1993 and the take on a manager's role in mid-1990s before jumping to WCW as part of the nWo angle. With Ted retired from in-ring action due to injuries, WWE used Ted to introduce a new star to the WWE Universe: Ted DiBiase, Jr.. The younger Ted won the WWE tag titles in his first match with the company and went on to form Legacy alongside Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. After being featured in a high profile feud with DX, DiBiase brought back his father's homemade championship, the Million Dollar Belt. The younger DiBiase was less successful than his father at playing a rich snob and WWE parted ways with him in 2013.
